You may be wondering, what is Writersverse? It is the name of the writing group I am a part of which speed writes every Thursday. Like the Spider-verse, each of us are given the same topics, (i.e. Spider-man) but then are given just a short amount of time to come up with our own original stories centered on the topics.
Story #2
Time limit: 1 hour
Genre: Poem
Theme: Evil
Prompt which must be in the story: Singing
—
“Do you hear it?”
“Can you feel it”
The voices, the voices.
They tell a story.
One from long ago
Of the darkness which won
And a hero who let go.
Can you hear them?
Singing out the name
Of the monster from the depths
Who has come to life again.
Aragobah.
Slayer of heroes
Shredder of worlds
His mighty sword struck down the heavenly horde.
Defiling
Corrupting
Destroying
Aragobah!
“Do you hear it?”
The whisper of the song, its hoarse voice carrying upon the dry dusty winds.
Its melody the screams of heroes plunging into darkness.
Its form constructed from the blood and bones of man.
“Can you feel it?”
Aragobah’s victory!
Watch as the great hero falls.
Alone.
Lost.
And
Afraid.
Always afraid.
no hope
no dreams
gone.
Swallowed by the anguish of that final cry
“No more!”
“I am done!”
Aragobah laughed,
laughs,
will laugh
Time means nothing
For Aragobah rises again.
“Do you hear it?”
“Can you feel it”
The voices, the voices.
They tell a story.
Of brokenness and pain.
Aragobah’s past
Was

By whom?
Who brings a soul down to the depths?
Who crushes dreams into nothing?
Who drove madness to the brink?
Who throttled the young in their sleep?
Fate?
Happenstance?
“NO NO!”
Hear them, hear them!
The voices know!
They sing it in their song!
Aragobah’s past,
is nothing more than the great hero’s future!
Oh folly, oh fickle time.
To be a monster and a savior at the same time.
To crush your own family underneath your foot.
To harvest their souls for your demise
Oh, foolish fickle time.
Can you
Hear it
I am here.
I will help
I will…
I…want
I…
…
Muffled.
Silenced.
betrayed.
For everything is now all for Aragobah’s gain.
“Do you hear it?”
“Can you feel it”
The voices, the voices.
They tell a story.
One from long ago
Of the darkness which won.
The hero who was ravaged
The evil which appeared.
…
listen to the voices
their song
they sing
…
Aragobah our dark king.
